Composer: Samarth Ramdas Swami (1608–1682 CE) — a contemporary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and author of the Manache Shlok and Dasbodh.

When to sing it: The daily aarti during Navratri, the darshan aarti at Devi temples (Tuljapur Bhavani, Mahur Renuka, Saptashrungi, and others), and at the Devi's other festivals.

Meaning (brief): O Durge, without you there is no way through this world; you are the refuge of the helpless and the one who spreads compassion; free me from the cycle of birth and death — I have lost heart, so ward off this trouble. You are the slayer of Mahishasura, the giver of boons to the gods, the reviving deliverer. There is none like you in the three worlds — even the Vedas and the six schools of thought tire trying to describe you, yet you rush to a devotee's aid at once. With a gracious countenance you free your devotees from affliction and the bonds of worldly life; the devotee has become wholly absorbed at your feet.
